Andrew Callard (Director and Math Instructor)

 Andrew has taught middle schoolers math and coached the Math Counts team at Sidwell Friends for 19 years.  In his position as middle school math department chair over the last 15 years, he has written enrichment curricula for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades, respectively, to ensure that the most talented students in each grade are adequately challenged and stimulated in their math classes.  He won his Sidwell Friend's Alice Dater prize, awarded to honor outstanding teaching from a faculty member in 2011.  He has coached his team to first place at the State MathCounts Competition for DC public and private middle schools in 2001, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019.  In addition to being a lover of puzzles and challenging math problems, he is a singer and composer who has recorded with numerous professional musicians all over the world.  He holds a B.A. from Brown University and M.A in Math Education from the University of Maryland.   

Dr. Aprille Ericsson (Co-Director)

Dr. Ericsson is board member of the DMV National Society of Black Engineers, Jr. Chapter. She leads countless student groups in robotics, math enrichment, and coding in the DMV area, and is a passionate advocate for increased diversity in the STEM workplace. She has worked for decades at NASA and the Goddard Flight Center in the Instruments Systems and Technology division, and was the first woman to receive a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Howard University.

Brent Ferguson (Math Instructor)

Brent has been a high school math teacher at independent schools in New Jersey for the last 25 years. He is a frequent presenter at national math teacher conferences, and has even co-authored a textbook for high school students. He presently teaches high schoolers math at Princeton Day School. He is an avid collector of books about math for the general public, and is passionate about sharing his love for math and problem solving with students.

Each year, we hire high school and college students who are pursuing STEM careers to support students in our math and coding classes. These students also provide perspective to our campers on their own unique journeys entering STEM studies, and support the students in our math and coding classes.
